I spent today giving my neglect main some much needed love. I bought her some gear, and let her attend an RP event.
Oh, and I died surprisingly less often that I thought I would.
Ketlan Jancis spent her first day in Stormwind, after years of serving for her kingdom. She has returned home, like many soldiers, feeling troubled by the world and the atrocities she's seen. She reported to Bishop Benedictus at the Cathedral of Light. Some of the priests there noticed her trouble, and recommended that she attend a lecture that was being held that evening.
She spent the day wandering through Stormwind, reacquainting herself with a place she hadn't seen in years. At one point, there was an alert put out for a rogue named Pang, who was attacking citizens. Ketlan instantly went on the alert. She patrolled the streets for the knave, but worried about her actions and what they meant.
She'd just come from a war. She was looking for peace. Yet the call to action stirred feeling she thought she'd suppressed. She was a healer, not a fighter, yet necessity had taught her how to survive a battlefield. That she was still facing the enemy in the heart of Stormwind angered her.
She found her old armor set. It was a mismatched set that cost her most of her money to put together, and was barely battle tested. Some tailoring skill allowed her to make minor improvements.
It was time for the lecture to begin. Lead by Genevra of <Conclave>, the topic was surprisingly personal for Ketlan. The topic on hand was shadow priests, and the nature of shadow magic. It quickly turned into a debate on whether it was right to use the suffering of others to further one's goals, and how to determine who was "innocent" and should be spared. It ended without any sort of consensus, as many debates do. Ketlan lingered afterward, pondering her own motivations for unpacking her armor, and the appeal of the Shadow. Why was she being drawn to actively fight?
After the debate, she held a brief conversation with Nostrea Weillington, a former prosecutor. Together, they agreed that sometimes sacrifices for the greater good must be made, but could not define was was acceptable or not.
Ketlan visited the Blue Recluse, much in need of a drink. She was diverted by the strange sight of a small person with a Human Mask sitting in the corner. Bizzlebrain assured her that he was human, and not a goblin. If she would be so kind as to help a fellow human to the human library? Ketlan left him be, as he was not causing any serious harm, although she notified the Watch. Not everything required direct confrontation.
She found a quiet place to have her drink and think about her battles. She'd been in a few, and admitted to herself that she didn't know what to do except follow orders and try to stay out of trouble. She disliked running. 'If you ignore those abilities, you are refusing to accept part of who you are.' She'd said that to Nostrae earlier in the evening. It was time to stop ignoring her desire to actively defend her homeland.
Little does she know that other battles are coming her way.
OOC: I spent most of my remaining gold today buying some BoE equipment for Ketlan and running BGs to build up honor points. I actually managed to go through Tol Barad without dying! Strand of the Ancients was awful, though, as I had absolutely no idea what I was doing and kept getting killed.
I've never really been into PvP, but I'd like to participate in the RP PvP events on the server, so I need to build some experience and earn gear. I don't want to go Shadow, but luckily, Ketlan's a Disc Priest.
BG healing is a giant mess. I can't tell who's within range and needs healing. There's no designated tank to watch. I've tried to just pick someone and stick to him, only to have the Horde rush up to me and kill me. My goal at this point isn't to kill Horde, but to avoid dying as long as possible. It's little depressing knowing my most useful skill right now is being a fleshy speed bump to slow the enemy advance. As long as they are killing me, they aren't killing anyone else. That's the ultimate disc priest mitigation healing!
ICly, I've decided that Ketlan has become a bit reckless and headstrong after her experiences in Northrend. She came close to losing her life several times, and now refuses to play it safe when life is fleeting. I figure there was at least one time when her outfit was captured by the enemy, and she had to fight for their lives. Not an easy thing to do for someone who vowed to be a healer. She had to learn to embrace the shadow, and accept that part of her. She will not respec to Shadow, however.
I'm thinking she'll have a personal plot line where her brother tries to cut her out of the family inheritance. She hasn't been around for years, and he wants to sell the family farm. She will need to decide whether to save it, and if so, how to do it.
